All payments for locum shifts will be made in accordance with the regionally agreed rates as shown below from 11th May 2015:

1. Statutory holiday rate is time and a half of the full rate. Any escalation rate paid during a statutory holiday will not attract a further enhancement.
2. On-call availability rate payable per hour. NB: This rate can be enhanced to the higher rate (full shift rate) as follows:
   1. If the doctor is required to return to the hospital, i.e. for emergencies, the higher rate will begin when the doctor is recalled to the hospital and is inclusive of the time required to return to work and return home.
   2. Additionally the higher rate will be paid when the doctor is providing telephone advice from home, and will be paid at the appropriate proportion of the higher hourly rate. It is anticipated that the average time per telephone call will be up to a maximum of 15 minutes
      • i.e. 4 calls to provide advice to staff that occur during the non-resident on call period will result in a payment of: 4 x 15mins = payment of 1 hour at the higher rate.
3. Where necessary an escalation rate may be applied subject to set criteria ie:
   1. When a Trust formally declares their Emergency Plan / Major Incident Plan
   2. When Medical Cover has been reduced to an unsafe level as determined by a Medical Director and Service Director e.g. Medical Staffing levels within the unit have reduced below 50%
The Escalation Rate does not apply on statutory days.
